Why are Carrots Healthy?

Carrots are very healthy vegetables that all individuals should include in their diets. However, they have become popular for being great sources of beta-carotene. They have many other characteristics that make them special, and this week, Mint Nutrition Clinic is focusing on their health benefits. Read what our nutritionists and registered dietitians have to say, below.

Why are Carrots Healthy?

Carrots are vegetables that are a great source of beta-carotene, fibre, and other nutrients. Beta-carotene is also an antioxidant that helps human cells from being harmed by free radicals in the body (Eatright Ontario, 2012). Also, beta-carotene becomes vitamin A in the body, through a complicated process. Carrots also add a lot of color and flavour to ordinary salads and meals; therefore, they are a fun food to add to meals. They are cheap to purchase and many recipes feature them in unique ways.

Eating a variety of fruits and vegetables is a great way to improve your health in many different ways. You can lose weight, reduce your risk of developing heart disease, diabetes, and cancer as well. Therefore, vegetables like carrots, should be enjoyed regularly.
